There's a small gear retainer on the cassette mechanism that cracks and gets loose allowing the gear to float up. This allows a cam that is hooked on a piston to come free, a small dab of super glue on the retainer fixes the problem (don't get glue on the gear) and be sure to re-hook the cam. Take the radio out and remove the back cover. Remove the 4 screws in the wells around the pc board and pry the top off, remove the control knobs first, note they are not all the same. The cassette mechanism is held by 4 more screws. The cam and piston in in the lower corner. Hope this is helpful to someone.
