Radio Question

My dad has a 1993 with radio issues. Here' s the long and short of it. The radio works, but there is a loud humm at times.(not all the time) The radio will work fine for a short time, then cut out completely. It works fine when using the iopd through the AUX, no problems. ( no static, humm, or cut outs) I switched his radio with mine from my 1992 and it worked as it should. So I know it's in the radio, not antenna or other wiring. We cleaned all wiring ports for his radio and harness. Other than sending it to Sierra does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help. Also what years will interchange with the 93, if I have to buy a new used one?

Sierra will save you a boatload of money, just by fixing the unit you have.Sounds like you are getting A/C hum from the alternator, which leads me to think noise filter problem. I'm just sayin'.... jimsjinx

Sounds like the speakers are no good . I bet if you try different speakers the hum will go away.

Speakers are okay. When I hooked my radio from my wing up everything was fine. It also plays loud and clear with the ipod hooked up, it only does it when the am/fm radio is on. The bike was not even running while it was acting like this.

Ok, so that eliminates noise filter! I know you can get a hum if there is something awry between the tuner and the amplifier circuit. If your intercom and i-pod work, then the amp is working. I wonder if a button or control is sticking? Hope you find it, I bet it's simple. jimsjinx
