Really need some advice..

I am nervous about an offer I just made on a 1985 Goldwing Interstate. I saw one I really liked on craiglist and it was so pretty I made a low ball offer and it was accepted. But it is conditional on my seeing it as I said I would "probably buy it".

The private owner took it in on trade. It only has 18,000 miles on it and he says a mechanic inspected it and says it runs like it just came off the showroom. I haven't ridden a bike since I was a kid and they were all small bikes. I have no mechanical aptitude but find myself with a lot of time in my early 50's.

I was told that low milage is not necessarily a good thing and that the stators are big problems.I can still back out but do not want to. I know I sound stupid but I am normally a bright fellow. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks. I will give it a good going over and see if I can get a mechanic to look at it also.

Another good read is http://www.goldwingfacts.com/used1200.htm (you've prolly already read that one, since you're here)

Best betwouldbe to go alongas you're already thinking -- get a second set of eyes if you don't trust your own; by NO MEANS sell yourself short... touch and test every feature and you'll be off to a good start.

Don't overlook local Riders' groups for a friendly hand ... GWRRA Region E Chapter N is right there in Springfield ( click for contact info ). Nothing like asking a current rider for a once-over look on your new purchase. I know that I don't shy away from "test rides" or the opportunity to look one over.
