Really slow oil leak somewhere?

89 GL1500 with 90,000 miles.

recently I've noticed a hot oil smell after a ride. this is new.

there are no drips under the bike and it's not "using" a noticable amount.

Are there any common areas that develop seepage type leaks over time on the 1500?

thx in advance for any help.

PS. leaving sat for 2400 mile trip thru Montana, yrellowston, and grand Tetons with stop in sturgis on the way home. me and daughter #2 on gold wing. daughter #1 on FJR. can't wait!

No takers, I guess.. at least this will bump it back up...

I will add this... if you are smelling burnt oil, it is either from the exhaust or dropping on something REALLY hot.. cool oil has practically no smell.. Having said that, you might check the valve covers to see if oil is getting onto the manifolds/exhaust.. bottom line is, if you don't have drips or smoke, then whatever you have is not very serious....

Maybe take a look at the shift lever seal? I think similar to the 1200, you may get a drip on the pipe once in a while. If so, not a hard fix.

Yeah, shift seal is a good candidate, or maybe it's coming from around the belt covers somewhere. If you can smell it burning, you should be able to find some build up near an exhaust. It could also be at the rear of the engine, dripping on the exhaust under a cover or even the differential leaking onto a muffler.

Check the oil level if its got too much in you can get this smell my 97 bike had this i thought it was a build up of dirty oil on the alloy belly pan so removed it but still had the smell just like oil on the exhaust but dropped the oil/filter and filled up to the correct place and the smell was gone it never came back
