Rear caliper

I have been rebuilding the rear brakes on my 1982 gl100, for some reason I can't get the top seal to stay in on the caliper. It seems to be to big but it is the same as the one that was taken out. Is there a trick to getting this in??

Yup - when I have had trouble getting the top (ribbed) seal in the caliper, every time it was because there was residue or corrosion left in the groove. I use a dull pick to scrape it out (dull so it doesn't score the caliper - see step 25 in the link below), coat the seal with ATF or brake fluid to lubricate it, then squeeze it in. When the groove is nice and clean, the seal pops in quickly with no fuss.

Greetings from Beautiful BC!

I recently had a problem doing the 2 front calipers. One side went smoothly but on the other I couldn't get the one seal in. Turned out the GL1100 kit I purchased had one wrong upper seal, too large. I ordered one from Honda and it went in real slick.

Good luck

Thanks , I picked up another caliper from a used parts place, this one works great. I think I did get the wrong rings, but for now the new(used) one I got works and so my Goldwing spare parts collection starts. Oh yea I took the bike for a short 100 mile ride to test it.
