Hi, I've tried three different places so far, and they're all reporting that Honda has apparently discontinued the gasket kit A for the 1985 aspencade (PN: 061A1-MG9-S00 )

The individual gaskets themselves are available, but this will apparently drive the cost up to over $200. Is there a recommended aftermarket gasket kit that folks have been happy with?

Or, alternatively-- if I have to replace my head gasket, can someone provide a list of gaskets and seals that you know I'll need (in addition to the head gasket) in order to get my bike running again?

TIA

sabre cycle have the kits available for gl1200, but they are not OEM so it can be a bit of an unknown risk trying them, particularly with head gaskets, would be better to stay with OEM

still it does give you some options,

good luck,

Well, I went ahead and bought them, so I guess I'll be the guinea pig.

is that kit for one side or both? I maybe doing mine this winter. If you would Please let me know what you get with it when it comes Thanks in advance. You may want to have your head machined to make sure it's true and to give the aftermarket gaskets a better chance of sealing if not to expensive.

Is the gasket kit available for a 1986 or 1987? I needed head gaskets for my 1980 1100 a couple of years ago. They were discontinued. My very friendly and helpful parts man checked all the individual parts in a later year 1100 set. They were the same. Only the price had change. It had increased of course.

Discontinue a part, change the part number and raise the price. Seems like a fashionable way to do business.

I ended up purchasing them through Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Vesrah-Top-En...MAIE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317941482&sr=8-1 ) , and according to the description:

*****
include all necessary top-end gaskets, O-rings and valve guide oil seals to complete a top-end rebuild; sold each

This Item Fits the Following Applications:
1987 Honda GL1200I Gold Wing Interstate
1987 Honda GL1200A Gold Wing Aspencade
1986 Honda GL1200SEI Gold Wing Aspencade
1986 Honda GL1200I Gold Wing Interstate
1986 Honda GL1200A Gold Wing Aspencade
1985 Honda GL1200L Gold Wing Limited
1985 Honda GL1200I Gold Wing Interstate
1985 Honda GL1200A Gold Wing Aspencade
*****

It looks to me like it would be for both sides.

I only found it on Amazon by searching for the Vesrah part number that I found on a different site. Even searching for 1985 Honda Goldwing didn't turn up this gasket kit.

Shipping says it won't show up for a week or so, and my time is limited enough that I am suspecting I won't get finished until the middle of November.

I recently used a Vesrah head set for my GL1000, very pleased with their quality,

the head gaskets were "sticky" (had some sort of sealant already on them).

The kit didNOT come with intake manifold o-rings, or cooalnt tube o-rings & flat gaskets, butDID come with exhaust copper rings & oil orifice tube o-rings (very nice!)

+ a bunch of o-rings I have no idea what for...

Racer, when you want to ask a question, feel free to start a new thread. You'll get way more response that way. Really.
