Hi. Does anyone know if the pocket cover can be snapped offthe curved hinge end and the new one just snapped back onor does it entail going further into the springs and attachment bracket. I tried to just snap the cover offbut it doesn't seem to want to come off and I don't want to break one of the curved hinge arms. Thanks

If oyu open the pocket cover there will be plastic rivets with push pins in the middle. Push these pins in and pull the pocket out lid and all. This may give you a better idea of how to remove the lid. And by the way

I can take the pocket out very easily but the actual cover is still attached to the fairing. That's where my problem lies. Thehingeassembly is still under the fairing yet and it appears I would have to take the whole top shelter off to get to it. That sounds like a little overkill just to get the pocket cover off. That's why I was trying to see if the cover somehow just snaps off the curved opening brackets

Your wing must be newer than mine. Honda seems to make little changes every year to drive people crazy.

I figured out how to add a picture. Now you can see what I mean. Any suggestions.

By looking at the picture you would think the door would pop right off the existing curved hinges at the end. The new doorhas the same square openings where it appears it would just snap on the existing curved hinge end. No matter how I pry, prod and push I can't get the existing cover off those hinge ends. Am I just not doing it right? It seems so simple yet it won't come off and I don't want to break a hinge arm.Has anybody ever been successful just snapping the cover off the hinges?

The lid on 2001-2005 models requires firstly removing the painted strip that runs along the edge of the fairing. Start at the bottom and rock it loose by lifting one edge then the other.
Remove the bolt at the level of the grip heater blanking panel and remove that panel. It has tabs on the outer edge that you need to free up from the edge of the fairing. Now remove all 4 of the bolts down the edge where the painted strip was and be careful as they are not all the same size.
You will now be able to gently lift the edge of the shelter and unbolt the pocket lid.
Its a PITA to do on pre 2006 models, the 2006 and later models have the lid attached to the pocket and they come out as a unit.

Thanks so much. I had the painted trim piece off but didn't think of removing the bolts on the panel and the shelter and just lifting it up a little. I'll give it a whirl.

You know, after thinking about this all night last night, why would they send me a new cover with just the openings to be able to snap on to my existing hinges, if the old cover wasn't designed to just snap off. And guess what! It does! It just took a little prying with a small bladed screwdriver tip to loosen the area around the mounting area on my old cover, pushing on the slot openings provided at the cover hinge end, and presto, off it comes. And the best part? The new cover snaps right back on in less than 5 secs.
