First of all I have placed this post here in this particular forum and not the others as this it seems is where most of the reading and writing tends to happen. It is not technical in nature at all. I hope that the moderators will not move it away too quickly before a good many people get a chance to read it.

This read is for everybody… new and old to this wonderful site. My questions are rhetorical and no comments are required and maybe best if no comments are left. Just read this and let it set with you for a while. I am willing to take some heat for what I am about to say. I say it with heart.

I don’t know if it is the change in the seasons, perhaps the growing everyday pressures we face in this crazy global economy or perhaps maybe I am just becoming more sensitive in my old age at 42. I don’t really know but I am feeling a change around here and I have to say it’s not a good one.

I log onto the site countless times a day. Probably 15 to 20 times… really. I am rarely more then 20 feet away from a connected computer and this site has woven itself into my life almost from day one when I joined. I love it here.

I have noticed in the last 6 weeks or so that people have been on edge here. Questions are asked, comments are made and then fingers are pointed. Some posting are a virtual mind field to go into. I have been reading posts from people that seem quite upset at someone else viewpoints… they seem to be quite upset. They can’t seem to jump in quick enough to “correct”, “clarify” or “condemn” someone else’s question or comment.

These “raw” posts are coming from people that I have been talking to for the last year and a half I would have never guessed that they were harboring such frustration on a subject. There have been several posts from a particular member, who does not seem to be with us anymore, that was actually inviting a conflict. Some of your guys were buying into it hook, line and sinker. Perhaps his attitude was catching?

In any event, I see sarcasm, and not the witty kind, become pretty rampant here. Can’t we all just get along?

I originally joined this site so I could learn about my new found passion. I felt liberated by all the good will here and the willingness for people, complete strangers, to help one and other. That drew me to this site like a magnet. I bet it’s what drew you to this site too. It’s what we all seek.

It is so nice to see people passionate about a subject, to see their points of views even though they may differ from my own. It’s how I learn. But lately it’s been kind of hard to come back and read some of this bickering back and forth. Comments are added to threads that are not on topic and are inflammatory. Can’t we try to make our point in a peaceful tone? If you’re upset about something can’t you please think twice before flaming someone? Maybe stop, read what you have written and think before you hit that Enter key?

Patience and good manners benefit everyone, both here and in the real world. My grandmother, who I have mentioned here a few times over the last year and a half, was a very wise woman. “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. I usually got a loving smack in back of the head immediately after hearing those words. I never could duck in time.

Please, can’t we all just get along? Can we all please “Reset” our thinking and be cordial and pleasant again? We all read things that we don’t agree on, sometimes strongly, but jumping in with both feet may not be the best way to answer a question that was not asked of you. Tempers flair, feelings get hurt and respect diminishes.

Without respect, genuine respect, for other members, this forum will go like others. I don’t want to see that happen.

“Respect – the more you give the more you get.” (I usually got a hug from my grandmother after that one)

Peacefully and respectfully,

Tim Wentzell.

You're pretty quick to condem and quote a Disney bunny. If you can't stand the heat maybe you shouldn't stand so close to the fire...oops.

Is that the attitude you were speaking of? :D

Hi Tim - i'm new here but maybe it's just the sign of the times or what the world has come to -

i just quit a forum i really enjoyed - i was trying to post a photo & was having trouble so i wrote the webmaster for help & here is what i got back after a couple of e-mails -

***********************************************************************

Look here..
I TOLD you what needed to be done.
I am not a god damn computer tutor
If you cannot follow simple instructions it not my damn fault

Dave - BTW Webmaster

**********************************************************************

i made an ad here on this forum - pricing a trailer i had for sale for $2,750 - next thing i know a couple members are talking about a trailer for $2,000 - i felt this was very rude of them - they did back off & they didn't mean anything bad about it but they never should have butted in on my thread -

I just bought a new Goldwing - i don't know how many people ask me "How much did it cost" thats just a rude question that i'm sure somebody here will jump in & ask - "How much was it"

Have things changed for the worse on the net? i think so - i try not to post much anymore - but once in awhile i fall off the wagon -

Tim is saying what you will find on the New Comers page written by Steve Saunders, the founder of this forum.

Sarcasm is something that can be easily misinterpreted when in print. Voice inflection is missing, and emoticons are not always correctly chosen, or may not convey the inflection intent close enough.

Large families often times have different opinions within them. Let's just try to state an opinion and leave it go at that, not say that another's opinion has no merit.

Slipjoint,

You make a valid point also. Respect is earned, not given.

Outright asking "whad ja pay?" is not appropriate. If I want to say I paid $7,000 for my bike, then okay, I said it. But to ask you what you paid for it, and then ridicule you paying "that much?". Very disrespectful.

Maybe the impending change of season to blame? :D

Seriously, a lot of people forget to observe forum etiquette. That means not hijacking threads or making fun of someone even if they did pay too much for a trailer or asked too much for it.

BTW I believe I knowwhich "particular member" you refer to Tim. He is a troll pure and simple and seems to be the cause of recent annoyance, shoulda been kicked to the sidelines weeks ago.

Am I missin' something?? I thought everything was fine here.
if someone gets a bit abrasive, I go read something else.Whoever it was is not a part of my life, nor do I know them, so whats the big deal? I think some of us, self included at times, take this stuff way too serious in a simple debate, whatever the subject. I bet 90% of the sarcasm is meant in fun.
When it isn't, I don't waste any more energy on it.True that some folks are rude by nature, but you can't fall into that stuff or it will keep you ticked off and defensive. I'm sorry that you got a negative vibe goin on, no one deserves to be insulted. Keep ridin'! jimsjinx

I fully agree fully with you Tim.

I also fully admit to being guilty of most of what you point out.
I can Hi-Jack a thread in a Heartbeat, as some can attest to.
I can be brash, harsh, thoughtless and self-centered, as some can attest to.
Disrespectful... Yes, I cross that line too at times.
I rarely use emoticons while trying to convey a sentence.
I too have misinterpreted conveyances because of it.
I have routed my primary activities toward the technical forum as a result. In my black-and-white world, it seems facts are purer than fiction.

In reality, I mention none of this for anyones benefit but my own.
We listen, we learn, we move forward.

I'm now cleansed,

Steve.

Hmm. There's been a recent thread "darksiding". Because I made comments that I consider fitting car tyres to solo bikes to be questionable at best, and gave a technical reason why- my comments have been censured. I was trying to point out that this is a legal minefield with likely insurance implications and my sympathy goes out to those involved in accidents with uninsured drivers. This censure of these cpomments gives the impression that an alternative position is not allowed. I have been critisised for commenting negatively on something I haven't tried. Well there's lot's of things I have tried but experience and reason means I never would. I still have an opinion though...Steve

i have been here for a couple of years and think its the best place to be. ok maybe except for the beach. i have read a lot of threads that a lot of guys write and a few could be taken as abrasive. my feeling is that 99% of these are opinions, some are written with the thought of being funny, some are personal to each other maybe in sarcasm but they usually know each other outside this site. i usuall laugh about it and read on. we as adults have the option to ignore stupid comments or retaliate. i agree with you there should never be any personal attacks here. everyone here has made this site a virtualy unlimited sorce of information that not one person has benifited from. i have naver taken offense by things said here. everyone is entitled to their opinion , look at the oil and tire threads. it has to make you chuckle, dosen't it. anyhow. JMO. my last comment is to thank all of you here that make this site what it is and allowing me to have my opinion. Don

Skip20
Skip,

Loosing what you typed depends on the browser you are using, or the settings as to how it works.

I use Firefox and like you, have on occassion lost some of my typing. IF that occurs, try to use the backup command (left arrow or ALT-left_arrow) and most browsers will retain your typing. Not always, but usually.

My safety net for this symptom is to do a Control-A Control-C key sequence just before I click SEND. That will capture and store your text in the "Clipboard buffer". Then, if your text should disappear, a simple Control-V or Edit/Paste will restore your text.

use IrFanView to resize your pictures before you try to attach them. Saves a lot of grief.

I am a peace maker by nature, but I am also a kidder by nature. Sometimes people think my kidding is directed with negitive intent, it very seldom is.

I joined this site because I was shocked that there were many gurus on here that would freely give information that would other wise cost a fortune. And all of this Sarcasm well.... I guess I like it and maybe I've even delt it. I havn't felt any direct hurt in it, just some ruff play, but then again i'm new here so who am I to agree or disagree.

hdmartin,

I too, try to make peace... in sort of joking manner... however I will agree that it is often difficult to tell whether what I might have said is being misinterpreted. I teach web mastery and other assorted geeky stuff and agree with AZgl1500 that not being able to see or hear each other often leads to hurt feelings.

I have been trying to be more mindful of others... I have been trying to steer clear of the hot topics and share with others what I've learned. Ya don't survive suicide and get to be 50 without having learned a thing or two... life is good guys. In the end, all this bickering is really sort of silly anyway. I apologize to any... and all i might have offended... I assure you that was NOT my intent.

Dave has been very helpful to me. Rudy is a resource beyond measure... and others have pointed me to vendors and used parts in a very selfless manner...

Thanks to all...

Group hug! It'd be great to sit around and tell stories over a few pints...

i think this is a great site, and we can all police it, just because someone disagrees with me doesn't make them right or me wrong, been doing the mechanic thing most of my life[ a very fast 48 yrs.]:cheeky1: and i learned that nobody knows everything and we can all be thick headed at times, just try to listen and learn, we can all be helped and visa versa , maybe working in shop all these years has given me a thick skin. if someone pisses you off pm them and talk it out maybe you just misread it or saw something that wasn't there. jmho which has been known to stink[ i think once, ask my wife:cheeky1::dude:].:action::waving:
