I like to modify my older bikes with later model technology. Call me Dr. Frankenstien:whip: I am going to installl an 83 interstate front end to gain the air assist front forks and the dual TRAC anti dive features, dual piston caliper brakes and front and rear mags from an 83 gl 1100 TO MY 77 GL 1000.
I will also add the turning angle sensor and wire harness thru the steering stem and try to figure out how to wire these to an 83 interstate left hand turn signal/horn/high beam control switch pod and also wire to the OEM turn signal cancellation unit.
However, when I review the 83gl 1100 interstate wiring diagram there is shown that there is some kind of speed sensor shown inside the speedometer. I have a sense that the relationship between the speed sensor is needed to feed some sort of signal to the cancellation module. I.E., when turn signal activated at stop light and no movement of the bike happens, I assert that it "talks" to the cancellation module and tells it to keep the turn signal blinking and conversely when changing lanes with theturn signal activated - since there is little to noturn angle to sense - it''s just a "lean" from counter steering, I think that it tells the module to reset the switch by activating the switch pods internal solenoid.
THEREFORE the question I am posing for the experts of this forum I am seeking, is DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THE RETROFIT WILL ALSO REQUIRE THE 82 OR 83 SPEEDOMETER WHICH CONTAINS THE SPEED SENSOR REFERENCED ON THE WIRING DIAGRAM?
After I get this project completed I want to try and retrofit Randdak's dual Weber carb conversion to the gl 1000.
The Dr. is hoping to find his edumacated Egore in this forum to help with this operation - :bat:
