Okay Guys, I am changing my rear tire and took off the trunk and found this little black gadget that Clymer calls a Reverse Diode Assembly. It appears to have been leaking fluid from it in the past. My Reverse system works perfectly. I have two questions before I go try to buy another. Is this the Reverse Diode Assembly. And, has anyone else ever had this happen to them and what did ya`ll do? 94 1500 SE. Thanks for any help and hope ya`ll have a good week!

Yes that is the reverse diode assembly. I don't think there would be anything inside it to be leaking but not sure about that. Could it be coming from somewhere else?

There is nothing in the Reverse Diode Assembly to leak. If you were having problems with this assembly your bike would have starting problems.

I would guess that the oil covering it came from a leaking shock.

You guys were right. No need to mess with this thing. It is sealed with some sort of polymer resin and looks like there is no way for anything to get in or out. It`s very curious how it got greasy but who knows. Anyway, now I get to remount my tire and put the ole boy back together. WOO HOO!

And Thanks for your replies!

I guess it might could come from the shock but I think as far away from the shock as it is the probability is pretty low but thanks for the suggestion. It looks like something just dripped onto it, but the mounting hole for the trunk is dry which indicates no leak from there and it too is a couple of inches away. Didn`t see this last time I had the trunk off. Oh well. I`ll take a picture of it for posterity and call this problem solved.

Cheers, plain
