I,ve seen two or three others with same problem. Has anyone got it fixed? Reverse works for 1 second and quits. Can hit starter button again imediately and reverse works one second and quits. Help please.

hi and welcome to the forum i would go with the reverse relay its located under the seat just behind the battery on the negative side there is also 2 fuses in a rubber boot there one might be feeding the relay

Two possibilities, overload safety or overspeed. The manual is a handy program that shows the different systems on the bike in detail seperate from the rest of the bike. Also has a good troubleshooting section and color coded schematics. The electronic manual is for a later model 1500 but the differences between it and your earlier bike are very slight.
