I am getting ready to rewire the stater to rectifier wires as I have found to be highly recommended on this form. I have a 85 gl1200 Ltd and would like to rewire the coils direct from battery through a relay as also I have seen recommended. But all the instructions I have found have been for the carb. models and the wiring of the coils are different.:? My question is, is this a good idea for the fuel injected bike and if so which wires from the coils are the hot wires I am thinking it is the Y/Bu wire from each coil. THANKS, Mel

The hot wire to the coils is a black/white, it splits and goes to both coils. Cut the wire and attach the hot end to terminal 85, the end to the coils to 87, fused wire from battery to 30 and ground to 86.

Dave, could be ignorance on my part but studying the wiring diagram of the limited edition gl1200 I can't find the split in the bi/w wires from the coils. I do on the 1200A.
