I think I have posted this before, but I'm not sure. In 2008 I bought a used '06 Harley Davidson Road King Police. It had "run flat" tires on it but I swear I can't remember what brand. I THINK they were Dunlop, but I'm just not sure. At any rate, when it came time for new tires I went to the local Harley dealer, Gruene Harley-Davidson in New Braunfels, Texas for new tires. I was told by the parts guy that I could not purchase "run flat" tires because they were for Policemen only. They could not sell them to civilians. Period.in a post awhile back i mentioned that the local mtc said there was a ride flat produced a few years back but that police departments stopped sales to the public but police could get them. some said it was a wives tail, today i visited our local harley dealer to look at a used wing they had on craigs list, while talking with the sales person i mentioned how i would love it if the tire makers would produce ride flats and related the story about the police, he turns and pointed to a used harley and stated it had a ride flat but didn't know where it came from.
my frame of mind since my accident has been overly caucious. lately after reading about blow outs on several forums( most went down) it has been waying heavily on my mind. i enjoy the freedom of two wheels but am strugling with safety concerns. i read on one forum that one tire seemed to stay better in a blowout but can't find it.
There are several policemen riding Goldwings in the San Antonio area. I'll make it a point to see if they can purchase run flat tires for Goldwings.
