Yes he was. He was trying to rescue someone under very challenging conditions, high altitude, darkness setting in and rapidly deteriorating weather conditions. To make it even more tragic, his wife was the dispatcher talking to him when he went down, he survived the crash and died later of injuries and hypothermia, it took two days for search teams to reach the crash site due to the weather.

:action:Tonopah for the night. Great ride today, 50's to 72, no rain yet! :action:

First full day riding with Sirius Radio, love it. And... just got it working perfectly last night due to assistance from forum members, with 2up and CaptainMidnight85 providing the most help and the solution. Thanks guys! :clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper:

Winslow tonight, windy, but dry day. 41 this morn, 72 high, 57 in Winslow. Pretty much a prefect day except for the wind - which was to be expected.

Made it into Roswell last night. Great riding day, sunny, no threat of rain, lots of wind - but that's better than rain. Didn't see many bikes on the road. Great sunset in Arizona night before last.

Ok, you know when you announce a road trip you're required to post pics for our enjoyment!!

Thanks Dusty,

So far the weather has been great and looks promising for the return trip starting tomorrow. I've been fortunate so far - no war stories to tell - hope to keep it that way.

Great trip, Sgt. Tingwall inducted into the Hall of Fame, seeing old friends, The Corps of Cadets look sharp this year, great weather.

In addition to NMSP Sgt./Pilot Andrew Tingwallbeing inducted into the New Mexico Military Institute Alumni Hall of Fame, a bench was also dedicated in his honor in the Alumni Plaza and they are working on setting up a memorial scholarship.

The Corps of Cadets looking sharp, passing in review.

Holbrook, AZ tonight, about 450 miles today after a late start. Beautiful weather, little gusty wind, sunny, high cirus clouds, nice sunset.

Sunset from east of Holbrook:

Our sunsets and sunrises have to be experienced. Lots of open spaces to see them with.

You are pretty close to me, Holbrook is where I get on the big slab and go east towards the rest of the world.

Hello John,

I would have tried to visit, but had to make miles - In Vegas now. Probably make it home tomorrow -about 550 miles to go.
imported post

Got home tonight about 7:30 p.m, 540 miles today. 2,865 miles total, six days on the road, four at Roswell, only saw three other Goldwings on the trip. Two 1500's, one 1800.

No rain, LOT's of wind, especially yesterday and today, 35 mph gusty crosswinds, but hey, no rain, nice temps - a great October ride.

Glad your trip was safe/a success and you are back home, enriched by your latest ride.

October does bring variable riding conditions up here as well. Yesterday was a beaut, with sun, temps of 17*C(64*F) and very little in the way of winds. Managed to get out for a little 200 miler, with plenty of breaks. Nice change after a couple of cool, rainy/cloudy days. Not too many good riding days left up here.

You live in beautiful country, but you do pay in the weather department. I am very fortunate to be able to ride year round, not everyday, but a greatmajority of the days are riding days.

It was a good trip.
