Rockingham Raceway (Corby) ( http://www.rockingham.co.uk/ ) will be having a parade of Goldwings on at their Thunder Sunday event on SUNDAY 2nd OCTOBER 2005. These days are always a great day out at this fabulous oval race track with racing very similar to NASCAR plus other racing formats. Earlier this year they had a display by Harley riders who had a good turnout so I hope that Goldwingers will be able to provide a display to top this. The basic format would be an entrance fee of £9 per person (pre paid), a reduction of 50% (normal price £18 per person) which would include entrance to the Raceway plus the chance to ride your Goldwing around the Oval as well as watch some fantastic racing.

To get tickets for the event you will need to call Charlene (although I expect any ticket sales operator will be able to help) on 01536 271528 and quote "Goldwings06" . This will entitle you to tickets at £9 each. You will be parking in the outer paddock - there are no vehicle passes as generally you will have nowhere to put them !. Security will direct you to the correct parking area. The Goldwings parade is timetabled for 13:30 and Staff will collect you from the Outer Paddock at approximately 13:00 and lead you under the track to the centre of the oval circuit. If the weather is bad the timetable will change as the priority is to get the SCSA cars on track -so all other activities would potentially change time. If this does happen we will let you know as soon as we can. You will be free to enjoy the day - at all other times other than your parade slot. Your tickets allow you to go anywhere you want and, unlike most racetracks, Rockingham encourage you to visit the pits where you will be able to see the cars being prepared.

For a full schedule of the weekend please see http://www.rockingham.co.uk/events/events.cfm .

There are plenty of good food stalls as well as excellent toilets and also a band contest on the Saturday with camping facilities for those who want to brave the October nights. As far as I am aware there are no showers but plenty of hot water.

Both the SCSA and the Pickup Trucks championships are very close and there will be fast and exciting racing on this unique circuit. Viewing from all areas is excellent with the whole of the circuit visible from the grandstands.

It was a fantastic turnout for the Blackpool Lights Run and this is another chance to show off your Goldwings.

PLEASE SUPPORT THIS EVENT !

Anyone attending this event please ?

I am due to go to France in the nextweek on the bike, however if I am back in time I will come. The track is only about 30 miles from me, so it is very local. ;)

We all had a fantastic day. In all 10 Goldwings attended, all highly polished and well presented.

We were treated like Lords by the staff at Rockingham and given pride of place in the display area where members of the public had to walk past to gain entry to the main facility. At 1.20 we were escorted from the display area into the centre of the oval circuit (the inner paddock) and at 1.30 prompt we were led onto the track behind the official Rockingham Pace Car. The first lap was at a nice steady 55mph whilst the Pace Car tested us for the second lap when it shot off at over 90mph . We were allowed to follow at our own speed around this awesome circuit. The crowds waved and clapped as we passed by the Grandstands and we returned the waves, enthusiastically. Everyone who attended agreed that it was a marvellous experience.

Rockingham were very pleased with those who turned out but, obviously, a little disappointed with the low numbers.

They maybe inviting us back next year so we need to know why people did not attend ?

Was it the cost ? Wrong Date ? Too Far ? or any other reasons ?

Please let us know so, like Blackpool Lights Run, we can increase the numbers each year.

Thanks to all who attended.

Hi ,,I think the main problem was that there was not enough notice for the event ,,I know from organising runs and weekends away etc ,you need to give at least 3 months notice for people to plan ,,,RE Blackpool ,I doubt very much if they will have a bigger crowd next year as there seemed to be a lot of problems with the parade this year ...cheers Ciaran

I didn't even see this thread until just now. Thats why you need to advertise it at least a month in advance, post it here and on the calendar and post reminders as it gets near. :waving:
