I recently purchased a 76 GL1000 with 18K miles. It is a little hard to start but seems to run well, although it won't idle well, and the temp guage quickly moves off the chart but the cooling fans won't run...where should I start?

See if the fan works(connect power) and whether there is juice to and from the thermal switch on the motor.

check the fuse box. if the bike is been sitting a lot those old fuses may have need some contact cleaner. after that, connect the fan directly to battery and see if it runs. if it does is then the thermoswitch.

Ok, fan contacts just dirty. the thermostat opened and the engine was running just fine, in the cool zone and then the fan kicked in...yes...Thanks!

I have an 1984 wing.The cooling fan has a fuse under the seat.Check it
