From a previous topic I am in the process of replacing my fork seals. I have hit a little snag on the snap rings. They are very rust and don't want to come out for me.

Have others had touble with rust snap rings? I am letting mine soak another night in a little oil.

Thanks.

Tap on the side of the snap ring with a small hammer using a punch, wrap or tape the tube so you can't scratch it. You don't want to hit it hard, just a good solid tap while it's wet with fresh WD40. This will help break the corrosion and assist the penetrating oil to get in.

That can really pi** one off can't it. I messed around with mine and eventually did what was suggested: soak them in rust solvent, try again a little bit later. The cir-clips can make one blaspheme badly:shock:

I found that after I got one side to come loose, I could use a very thin screwdriver to run around inside of where the clip was coming loose. Be careful if you do this because you could scratch the inside of the tube. It did work for me.

It is starting to loosen up a bit. I will let it soak another night.

Thanks for the tips.
