Salvaging 10 years of neglect

I just picked up a 1980 GL1100I from a coworker.
I was at their house to congratulate their son getting his bachelor's. Anyway, long story short, they had this bike on the side of their house. Covered in webs and dust, starting to rust a tiny bit around the edges (mostly just on the chrome pieces), nothing that can't be refinished...
I asked 'em about it and they didn't hesitate to tell me "If you want it, take it. It's been sitting there 10 years and my husband hasn't done anything with it yet." So I took it. I already know the starter needs to be replaced, and I'd like to tear down the engine to replace the gaskets and seals. I'll replace the tires and brakes, rebuild the forks and a couple other things. Other than that, the bike is cherry. I know I can get it running with your help.

I know this forum will be a valuable source of information, experience and advice. I know I'll need it, so thank you all in advance.

Ride Safe,
Ross

P.S. Can someone direct me to instructions to remove/replace the gas tank? Or just how to clean it? It's full of rust inside and I don't know the easiest way to remove the tank.

I recommend you post your question over in the technical section. Most of the gurus won't see it over here, and a lot more people frequent over there. Just a few of us greeters hang out over here on a regular basis.
