How does theowner manageto get this site up in the top spots on the search engines consistently. The latest upheaval sees this site #2 on Google, #2 on Yahoo (and they are the only two that currently count in the SE wars) and if you consider that the #1 spot on both is a paid inclusion spot it makes it more remarkable that a personal site manages to float to the top of the heap over all the commercial ones. It's also #3 on Lycos, #4 on MSN, #4 on Euroseek etc..... It's been like this for years and changing to .com didn't upset it for long either as the new domain is up there again. :clapper:

There's commercial sites out there that would give their eye teeth for such exposure and they probably already pay big money to web designers as well. I'm not looking for the secret, I just find it amazing. Oh and happy Christmas to ya'll.

I don't think even the wingnut can answere that one Ted. I think he just submits them just once a yearand forgets about it, after all he doesn't make any money from it so the ranking position doesn't matter in that regard. I do believe that Yahoo and Google (the two main players) give great weight to relevence, ie this is a Goldwing site and practically every page is full of Goldwing info so a very high degree of relevance there. Also there are no funny text tricks or link swap programs that you will see this site involved in, and they are killers in the eyes of search engines.

The wingnut is well up there all right. I hope he doesn't sell out like the Dutch guy Frits did. I mean it's probably cheaper for a big company to buy a well listed domain name that is consistently up in the rankings, than to spend loads of money on web specialists who promise to try and get their own sites up there but who rarely deliver.
If this place ever turns into another EBay takeover we will be turfed out of our hangout. :gunhead:

The wingnutwon't sell out. He's been offeredwhat I consider to be decentmoney two or three times before by big companies to either sell out or to clutter his site with adverts and he told them to get stuffed. The wingnut is stubborn and doesn't change his mind too often, so if the wingnut doesn't snuff it prematurely we should have a safe haven here for a long time to come .

I did a link check to see how many sites listed in the search engines haveSteve's site linked to and there is over 600 of them. Might indeed have a helping effect on SE ranking, although I know that Yahoo are more interested in content relevence than links.
