I'm looking for a place that posted making a seat pad from a WalMart wash mit. I'd like to try and make seat cover for a Gl1500 Asp also

Thanks The Trikester

Trikester.......

Why go to all that trouble? You live in Wisconsin, right? I know they have cows, but do they have sheep? Most sheep ranchers deal in sheep pelts. Red and I went over to a local rancher, picked through his pile, chose the thickest one we could find and just threw it over the seat of our ST 1300. Cost $60. It stays there just fine when both of us are on it..... I strap the very back of it to the backrest when Red stays home.... if it rains, roll it up and put it in a sidebag or topcase!

We didn't even measure it, or trim it...... probably still has the sheep feet on it, I didn't look! If you can't find a rancher in Wisconsin, find an IKEA... they sell a pretty good pelt, too!

Here's ours: it is the most comfortable seat pad we've ever used......

Mel, you want to go pick one out for me and ship it? Gotta be cheaper than buying on line and I don't care about the color as long as it's a light color.

Last year I purchased two WalMart Genuine Sheep Skin Wash Mits to use as seat pads for the wife and I. We are both very happy with them for both the summer heat and the winter cold. They were inexpensive at $9.99 each and were easily modified by removing the cuffs and stitching on two sides to end up with rectangle shaped pelts that measure 13" by 9". I will add some elastic fabric straps with small plastic hooks to hold them in place on the saddle. They are compact, when folded, to store away and prevent theft. Make sure that you select the rectangular (almost square) mitt and not the oval shaped one if you decide to go this route.

Just make sure they're dry or you'll be subject to the dreaded "trench-butt":dude:

Just out of curiosity, is this what you were talking about?

I saw these at Costco: http://tinyurl.com/orc6r3
I was at the local Costco the other day and they also had 2 large boxes of extremely thick sheepskin just like the Ikea ones. They were about the same size but thicker and I want to say they were about $25.00. I was tempted to buy one to replace my old Ikea one. I still might.

No, these are not the type I purchased from WalMart. The one's I got were almost square in shape without thumbs. After removing the cuffs and the stitching on two sides, they are rectangular and measure 13" by 9".

After all you have to do "over a weekend", I'd rather pay the $60-70 to a farmer. Seems like you still end up paying the same amount, plus all the labor.

$39 at Ikea for an entire sheep...

Granted, for a wing it may take some cutting, but I went to Goodwill and got a highback seat cover for $4.65 and it fit the Valk just fine. The high back fits over the sissy bar and there are plenty of straps to secure it to the seat.

I also did the wash mit thing for my Nomad, works great, but the labor involved made it to where I would not do it again. (Broke one of the wife's needles in the machine, not a happy camper that day) LOL

CJ After looking at all the threads about your picking up a sheepskin or two, this might turn into a great small business venture....:cheeky1:....Buy them in bulk quantities or walk out among those sheep putting "X"'s on the ones you have orders for.....Now talk about making some sheep nervous ??? that would do it......

I can just visulize those sheep....."Hey Bagmaster !!!! "Don't give that stupid look" Thats you name ain't it??? It's written on your back side in a marks a lot"???? "How about we get with cntryboy1289 for lunch????" .......:cheeky1::cheeky1::cheeky1:.........
