Seat repair/replacment, with a cheap twist (88 1500)

My 88 1500 seat is toast, all the seams self destructing.

As I'm out of work, money is tight, and to be frank I liked the stock seat, works for me; so I just need a new skin.

-The Honda dealer can get me one for $130
-Junes Upholstery via ebay is $140 CLICK HERE
-Ron Ayers, besides being totally confused by the partnumbers no aligning to make/model/year, there's all $240 which is way out of budget.

If anyone has any experience with the less expensive or Junes's it would be very helpful.
Thanks so much.

Then the cheap alternative!! one yard of black vynl from a fabric store, take it all apart at the seams and use each piece as a pattern, and use your wife's sewing machine to sew it up. Stretch it back on and staple it to the pan. It works better if you had an old sewing machine with steel gears it would be a stronger machine for the heavy material, but as long as you are careful it should work. $10.00 for material and some labor.:?:?:?

Look for a local auto upholstery shop, I had a n '85 seat done for less than a hundred.

Randy, less than a $100, you got a deal. I'm now a marine mechanic and work side by side with a upholstery guy, and I get the feeling he's more comfortable stitching canvas than seats.

Lion, great suggestion as I've actually sewed wedding dresses and the like. Just don't tell anyone.

Bill, thanks for the PM, following up on that.

Try these people, I got a very nice OE quality cover for my 83 for $100. Price may have gone up since though. Motorcycle Seat Covers by B & H Specialties

I wonder what the difference is between the '88 seat and the '93. Honda Direct line lists the '88 at $352.70 for a factory new seat while the '93 is only $188.75. It looks like the color is different, the '88 has brown and gray seats listed while the '93 had only black. They have gone up a bit in the last three years because I got a new seat from them for my '93 for $168. I think the shipping was around $30. If you have to spend $100 on a seat cover it seems to me to be worth getting a whole new one with brand new foam and pan. My old seat looked okay except for some tears but the new one felt a lot better, that old foam had lost a lot of it's support.
