When I shift it sounds it has a very loud klunk in all gaer ranges or at any speed range on a shift up or down. 1982 Aspencade I have heard it on other GLs but is normal as I never owned a GL before

It's normal, mine does it too. I've calmed it down a bit by switching to Dello 400 oil in the crankcase and pre-loading the shifter when i up shift.

Yes they do clunk when shifting. Putting into first at startup and then downshifting are usually the loudest.

Having a fairing with lowers will amplify the sound.

Try upshifting without the clutch i find its a much cleaner shift that goes for all bikes not just the wing and if you have heal/toe shifter get rid of it go back to std. fitting thats just my 10p worth

as far as my knowledge goes(79 gl1000,80 gl1100, 84 gl1200I, 85 gl1200LTD, 84 V-45 sabre) the wind has a clunky shift. naked bikes are not as loud. i use shell 15w40

rotella-t and the loud shifting has quieted down a bit.
