Hi All a few months back one of my customers wanted to buy a single carb set up so he went online and found one from juan Fernandez it didn't come with any directions how to adjust it also it would not fit the 79 wing that it should fit , the front of the carb hit the cross member on the bulk head . After several emails to him and not getting any help we installed it by bending the cross member 1/4" forward , Then the next problem came up cant get the carb to idle down below 1200 RPM . So I did several more emails to him . At this time it is very hard to get the bike into first gear cause of the 1200 RPM . His customer service SUCKS !!!

It does sound like he doesn't have good support. With that said the idle issue should not be unsolvable. It sounds like you have a typical vacuum leak. I am assuming that the carb has the ability to mechanically close the throttle plate all the way. Regardless of the engine. Regardless of the carb/s. If the throttle plate closes and there are no vacuum leaks you should be able to get the motor to idle. Spray a little carb spray around the area and see if it picks up even more RPM. if so that's where the vacuum leak is. Also be sure the throttle plate is being pulled closed all the way. If everything else is good it should idle.

Edit:I saw his video on eBay and noticed the carb is not centered on the manifold. If it was flip flopped left to right might that be the cross member issue? Did it come with his carb? Does it use a Solex carb? If so might this help?

Probably sucking air where the manifold attaches to the engine. The one I bought from LD for my 1100 fit perfectly without modification and performed flawlessly.
Sorry to hear there are those who sell crap.

I've been getting calls from people lately about problems with that kit.
The primary problem I'm hearing is the idle issue mentioned. Nothing mentioned of the fitment problem you're having though.
Juan seems to be hard to get ahold of. No phone number?

When asked, I've been referring others to Duane. I know his set-up works because I've built the same thing and ran it for a while. I like the carb he is using.

The big picture here is the power of selling on eBay. Juan has this over Duane (..aka LD, who has a solid performing conversion kit whose only critic has been an evaluation that no longer exists).
Thanks for the review. I don't see why this thread was moved when the subject was about how a product/upgrade/modification fit and worked. Would still like to see Juan defend his product here, although a good attempt at customer service should be the first line of defense.

Is there any chance you could have had the manifold 180 degrees out of correct placement?:?

My kit was for a GL1200 and works fine. The ad for it said improved design. Apparently the kit for the GL1000 is a different animal. If it has a Pict 34-3 Solex then the info on Redwing's post will be helpful. If the initial setting for the screw on the fast-idle cam is correct then the two screws on the left side should let the bike idle at around 1000 rpm. When warm, mine will idle at 900-1000 rpm. Engine must be warm so that the auto choke has stepped off. These are very sensitive to set the idle on and one adjustment can mess up the others.
I'm not going to defend Juan but his kit works very good on my GL1200 and I met no trouble with installation and adjustments. 2 guys in Russia also ordered same kits upon my recommendation and they are fully satisfied with them.
It appears that as far as Juan carb setups are concerned, this Juan is obviously not for you.

(Just trying to keep things lively!?

ummm is your plenum installed backwards?
The bike runs excellent except for the low RPM you cant get it there , I am going to fool with it more if the customer ever returns

This bike is a 1979 1000
carb set up

It can only go one way due to the throttle cable
Thanks for the review. I don't see why this thread was moved......
Because like you mention, the thread started as a review. Reviews and rant about dealers and products always go in the General Discussion forum. The Technical forum is specifically for asking for help with Goldwing problems, product/dealer rants and reviews clutter that up and get moved to General instead.

Saying all that, the opening post by Guy10596 has turned his rant into an interesting technical thread thanks to focussed input by some other members. Because of that I think the thread is suited for moving back into the technical forum.
CaptainMidnight, Any updates on your single carb setups?

The Captain does seem to make frequent appearances here:

I have found his input helpful...

Does anyone know if Juans manifolds are made of Alum. Or Steel?

At least they are not the copper water pipe fittings that they use to be.

Aluminum
He has both.
1000 and 1100 manifolds are aluminum.
1200 manifolds are steel.
