Every once and a while (esp heavy exceleration) I get a neutral gear instead of 4th when up-shifting. Otherwise, the gearbox is good and strong.
Hope you don't shoot up past the redline when you miss fourth. Sounds like the shift linkage is getting a bit tired. Maybe worn forks.

Is this something that just started or has it always been that way? I know on mine, if I don't shift hard enough between gears, and during heavy accelleration it will pop out of that gear and go between gears, kinda like neutral. You have to shift it like 'ya mean it sometimes.

It's showing a little wear that's all. Could stay that way for another 100,000 miles. I'dguess the fork ends are getting a bit worn and sometimes the gears just don't quite go far enough to engage fully unless you shift hard enough so the momentum of the gear carries it through.

Preloading the shifter like you were going to shift without the clutch will make is shift smoother, also make sure you lift the lever firmly enough to complete the shift, sometimes if you don't lift it all the way you'll get halfway in gear and it will kick out the first time you vary the throttle.
