I am new to this forum...I have an 01 I bought this spring that had 9500 miles on it, my first ever Wing. I currently have 24,400 on it. I love the bike but it has a smell to it when I stop for fuel or come to a stop...and some people complain about it if they ride behind me...The 02 sensors were replaced in 06 due to recall..the smell is more noticable when I let off the throttle..any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Not yet, I rode in some pretty cold temps last Friday..30 degrees was coldest I saw and 41 was the warmest I ran in rain, hail, and snow flurries...I was thankfully dressed for it. I am really starting to dislike winters:sadguy:

Like a vehicle that has a plugged catylytic converter.. not really a rotten egg smell but kinda like that..I had my f1 light flicker one time when I lugged the engine down in a high gear...to me it smells like a plugged converter but most people I talk to say they have never heard of one on a wing..

I have ridden behind another riders rich running engine, it does stink and makes my eyes watery. What are you getting for fuel mileage.

Not familiar with the 1800 but you need to check for codes, check filters and spark plug condition, test fuel delivery system and secondary air system if equipped. Then on to the likely suspect of sensors and ECM issues.

There is a valve that bypasses air in to the manifold when you drop the throttle. I can't remember what it is called. If that was not working it might cause the effect you are seeing.

I don't have an 1800 but on my 1500 I had a hole in the exhaust near the mounting bracket on the underside that was unnoticeable at first glance. The exhaust had rusted through and the rotten egg smell was terrible. Replaced the exhaust and corrected the problem.

Keep on Winging:bat:

Read the trouble codes first,If the light flashed maybe it stored a code that will lead you in the right direction. How long has it had this problem?and is it running ok other than the smell?

I pulled plugs last night and they look really good, proper gap and burning correctly...I also talked to a dealer about it and they said unless a light is on all they could do is check it with a scan tool and see if there is a code...so bascically comes down to ecm,02 sensors(which have been replaced) or plugged converters...he also said I should run at least 91 octane:?So since I was planning on putting torq loopz on I guess that is my first try...of course after running a higher octane gas..now I will somewhat fit in with the Harley guys:D
