So Glad I Didn't Ride The Bike Tonight

453 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Yellow Glide
Rain was in the forcast tonight and heavy rain in the morning so I decided to take the Jeep to work instead of the bike. Was really glad I did. Traveling a couple car lengths behind the ones in front of me when all of a sudden there were lots of brake lights. I slowed down about the time the guy in front of me swerved and I ran over something that made some awful noise and a big BAM under my jeep. Thought for sure I had some serious damage so I pulled over to check. Nothing found. There were two cars on the left shoulder that obviously hit each other on the freeway so one of them must have left part of their car in the middle of the freeway. I never saw whhat I hit and I always travel far enough behind traffic in front of me. So I shiver to think what would have happened if I was on the bike at 70+mph instead of the jeep.

Don't sell yourself short, you probably would have seen the object on a MC, and drove around it...................
Hard to say. It was late at night and the lighting wasn't great. When i hit whatever it was I almost had to clean my shorts. LOL. I thought someone hit me at first.
Glad everything went as well as it did...no damage to you or your vehicle...and the bike was safe and sound at home...

+2 to this.

Your chances of having seen/missed the object are much greater.
I once narrowly missed a wheel/tire in the middle of my travel lane of the freeway when I was on the bike. Had I been in my Jeep, I would have hit the wheel/tire dead center. The bike's maneuverability gave me a chance to get away from it. Yes it was the middle of the day and I could see it clearly, so if it had been dark I don't know if I would have had the same result.

Glad everything is all good.
Hit a road gator at night once as it blended in until it was too late:eek:

Always nice to have someone in front to give you warning,,,,,preferably a cage so no others get hurt.
