What is a good quick way to give your carb a good tune up? I want to hear your methods. I have an 84 aspy.

Also, i noticed a leak today (the day before a trip mind you), of coolant by the front of my radiator, right by the bottom screw. I have no idea what this could be because i just had it all checked out and had my waterpump replaced. Any advice you gurus?

Thanks,

Anthony

First thing I would look for is a hose clamp that hasn't been tightened especially since the water pump was just replaced. If you carburetor is out of adjustment then one of the guru can point you in the best direction. But if it is justvarnish from old gasyou can get a lot of help by adding Sea Foam to it.

New water pump  = new antifreeze ... and  new antifreeze has this uncanny ability to seep thru tiny spaces, whether its car , or Cycle./forums/images/emoticons/tongue.gif..  check and tighten all the hose clamps you can get your screwdriver tip onto....or a socket with a flexi joint ......... unfortunately... at least two of those connecctions  are very hard to reach , without bringing  the rad foreward an inch or two .. /forums/images/emoticons/shock.gif SilverDave /forums/images/emoticons/emoticonsxtra/cooldj.gif

Anthony, probably the quickest way is to first get the proper service manual, then pull the carbs off & go through them by the book.. If you want to spend more time & do it the hard way you can try all kinds of different short cuts & fool with them for about a week THEN pull them off & do it right..

Hose it off so you can see where it's coming from, I'd check the clamps on the two radiator hoses, if it's not that double check the radiator cap, it's difficult to get on right and might not be. Also look at the expansion bottle and it's line.

anthony, Twisty is so right. I went the MMO route, then the sea foam route, then the yamaha carb cleaner route, drainig the carbs each time. and then the fiddling, and the adjusting, and after about a week and 8 HRS work I broke down and removed, cleaned and rebuilt them. Had I spent the first 8HRS taking them off and doing it right I would have been able to ride 8 HRS. more! Its definetly worth the time.

lots off rebuilds kits on ebay should take about 6-8 hrs start to finish don't forget to sycronize them at end
