I only got one key with the bike when it came in from the states in March. It wasn't the original key. Since I'm paranoid about loosing it, how do I go getting a replacement key bearing in mind I don't have any codes etc, that people would have got when the bike was new:waving:
Is this a gl1500? If so just get a spare cut in any key shop. If you really want the OEM Honda key you can order the blank off Honda and then take it to a locksmith with your current key and they will cut it.
Honda only supply blank keys with the OEM badge, they don't come already cut even if you have the numbre off the old key or off the ignition switch.
Tha above applies to USA GL1800 models, the UK ones have to be specially ordered as they are chipped fo rthe HSS security system.
I had a spare key made at my local locksmith shop. Fortunately, the original key came with the bike. It cost me a little more (about $1.00 us), but they guarantee it. I tried it before I left just to make sure it worked. If it had not, they could have reworked the key.
The PO of my bike ('85 1200a) had cut the body of the key to fit inside a key-holder/flashlight that was supposed to give you light to see to put the key in the slot but the key-holder was bulky enough that it didn't allow me to lock my handlebars. I had a copy made using a key for Honda cage and it actually worked out better than I had hoped. The length of the key shaft is longer so I can lock the handlebars but it also allows me better grip when messing around with the keys while wearing gloves.
I'm surprised at that. Hond acar blanks are easily available and I think the Honda Accor car blank is the same as the one for the GL1800. The GL1500 and older models are the same as older Honda Civic/Triumph Acclaims to the best of my knowledge.
Had problems getting keys cut for my 1800 - the guys in the locksmiths all said that the accord blank was the same as the 1800. The 4 keys they cut (2 at a time) did not work at all in the end I order the blanks from Hondaline in the US 3 for $35 including postage which i thought was reasonable. The other thing to bear in mnd is that UK spec 1800's have the HISS system built into the key
Austin, my 1500 came with a non OEM key, ordered up two OEM blanks from Honda, but be careful as there is a type 1 and type 2 key blank which are opposites of each other, of course I ordered the wrong one for my bike, but luckily honda honda sent me the correct ones free of charge on receipt of the old ones. Worth it though as I now have a set of OEM keys that look original.

Same story in Ireland. The blanks are listed as A and B (after the part number), but Honda can't tell by looking at your old key which type it is.
