Working on fixing overheating problem as one last effort decided to r&r heads before junking motor, now have replacement heads installed I haveone dead cyl (left front). When pulled head just unplugged plug boots & wires and set aside. Installed new set of plugs. So pulled bad cyl plug and grounded to head getting a lot of spark from body of plug to head but not through electrode tip. tried swapping out plugs and boots from remaining three cyl which are all firing dead plug stays at that cyl. All plugs were working before head replacement, didn't disturb anything electrical other than unplugging plug wires. Any ideas where to look nextwould be appreciated, A trip toMontrose is fading fast! This is on a 1200 LTD. Thank!:12ltd:

Your live power that runs through the center core of your plug wire is finding ground. that is easier for it than going through your spark plug. You might have pinched a plug wire or the center core is touching ground. I cant remember if you can replace the plug wires on those coils, But I think you can. See if you can swap that plug wire with another one & see if the dead hole moves.

My Bad! Went out last night to check the plug wires, but before pulling wires I did the ground test once more in the dark, allfour plugs firing the same weak but firing. This afternoon did a compression test(115,115,120 and 0) so I am suspecting I bent a valve. Took belt covers off and sure enough left side 3 teeth off, over confidences done it so many times didn't do a final check before starting:doh:and it bit me.Not going to put any more money into it at this time, just going to park itand use it as a parts bike it's tired, pulled battery, putit to sleep at 155,00 miles, maybe some time in the future:12beige:
