on my 83 1100 in 5th gear my speedo is showing 60mph and my tach is showing 3 grand .

is this about what everyone else is showing on theirs .

I have been rideing with some friends that say I`m running 65 mph according to their speedo.

3 different make bikes and mine is suppose to be the one thats off ......:?

I used to have an 85 LTD and that is about what it showed at indicated 60 mph. It has been about 25 years since I owned a 81 1100 but from my fuzzy memory it seems it was turning more than 3000 at 60 mph.

Is that one of the 85 mph speedos? They were required by law to be accurate. If your friends have normal M/C speedos, their reading five more than you would be expected. Yours being the correct reading.

What seems a little off is the tach. I thought the elevens reved a little higher than the twelves. Are the tires the correct size?

That was my thoughts also Dennis. Like I said, I'm a little fuzzy on the memory now but it seems like my old 81 was turning somewhere around 3800 rpm at indicated 60 mph. The speedo on it was fairly accurate and it was the 85 mph jobby.

Edit to correct rpm from 4400 to 3800... told you my memory was fuzzy!

The 83 had a real TALL 5 th gear and tended to turn LESS rpm on the road but had issues with riding 2 heavier riders and pulling a trailer.

Is yours a 1983? The earlier years have different tranny gearing and will have different tach/speed ratio.

i'll check my 82 on the next ride, the main diffs i'm aware of is 83 is supposed to be uniquely geared

82 has the 16 inch rear wheel in common with the 83, vs 17s before that

woops I wrote it wrong ...I`m showing 3,500 rpms at 60mph
so must be about right ..I need to find one of those speed check signs on the road and see what I`m doing .
I`m sure most motorcycle speedo are off by a little .
I think my rideing friends are being a little nit pickey .
heck it`s 28 years old ..its ok with me if its a little off.

82a 60mph 140/90-16 (guessing that's the only one?)
a smidgen over 3500RPMs

from what i've read, the tranny is taller in the 83 vs the rest of the earlier 1100 line, but could be that doesn't factor in the 16" wheel in 82, dunno, 100 RPMs diff is not much

i'll check speed via gps vs speedo when i get to it

i'd love to see the numbers for 80-81 with the 17" wheel

bud rides a voyageur, said he runs 2900 RPMs at 60 and gets ~55mpg, has told tales in the past tho

I think my friends are just being nit picky maybe I`ve been running their V Twins to hard ....they both went to the shop this week for engine noise .
I warned them my Interstate loves the Interstate . probally why Honda named it that . just trying to blame me for them buying the wrong motorcycle for traveling .
they both spent over 20 grand and still don`t have a Goldwing .
