Sporstster slip on mufflers on GL1000

Finally finished long project of reviving 1977 GL1000.I have a two barrel weber on it now.Carbs work perfectly.

While sitting there tuning it I noticed the Harley Sportster mufflers sound throaty if your near the bike. But once i got her out on the road I wanted to sticka potato inside the muffers.Maybe its just me but i like the stockers sound much better.

Previous owner put them on.I see they go cheap on Ebay. They are probably a good replacement for a rotted out exaust but they just sound abnoxious to me.

Changed timing belts, cleaned gas tank, now going to stick on some polished up forks as the ones on now need seals.

Short guy must have been P.O. Has the handlebar extenders.Extended into my chest. The jobs not done but the really important things are finally complete.

The Weber carb isnt bad at all.The points were bad so i cleaned and reset the gap.Thought the miss was a carb issue but runs super now with a good tuneup.

I'll take those handlebar extenders off your hands if you don't like them. They'll fit my 1100 just fine as all the 1000's and 1100's have 3/4 inch handlebars. I meant to take the ones off my old 750 but forgot about then until after I gave the old girl away as a parts bike to a relative.

Yeah Michael, well I was looking at them. Now was wondering if i can remove them and still be able to turn the bike at crawl speeds. It seems maybe they are on to clear the Vetter windshield when turning. If The extenders are removed then I Have to pull the bars back too far and end up with them in my chest again.
I'll let you know what the deal is.Still fine tuning the bike.
With the touring seat pushing me too far forward and the bars in my chest and foot pegs too far back im really not enjoying the ride all that much.
maybe being 6'3" has something to do with it.
For now im going to put a stock seat on it so can sit back 4 more inches.

Hi,
I am curious about the carburetor,
which model of Weber you put in,
and what conversions did you do to fit it in?
Thanks,

I have a Weber 2 barrel 28/30 mounted to a vw pancake engine manifold.A 1/2 thick phenolic spacer and 2 gaskets separate the carb and manifold.

Out of curiosity I wanted to know what this carb was a replacment for.It seems a Fiat X-19 could use it.Many other applications no doubt. Its no longer made as far as I can tell but a website that sold fiat parts had one for a tidy sum NIB.
I can recommend the 28/30.It works great for my 77 wing.
The secondary barrel isn't needed but is there for added blast if so desired. You can sure feel the boost when its kicked in.
