Squealing from GL1500 speedometer area

I took my 93 GL1500 Aspendcade out for a run this afternoon and two problems appeared. As I was cruising up the road all of a sudden this loud squealing sound starts coming from the dash area. When I slowed down it settled down. But then when I started up again after a few Kms it started again.

In addition to this the "OD" light on the dash stopped coming on. Not sure if this is related or not. I just put in a new battery before this all happened. The weather temp was cool about 8degrees C.

Does anyone one have ideas or past experiences that will shed some light on this?

Thanks for any input

The noise is probably cable related. When my cable is getting dry, cold weather makes it squeal. The dash light might just be a burned out bulb.

you can remove the cable and add grease or replace it,
Same thing happened to my '84

Doesn't the 1500 Aspy have a speed sensor and wire instead of a speedo cable?

Ok so the the question is then does the 1500 Aspencade have a speed sensor and wire or a speedo cable? Any body got info on that?

Parts fisch shows a cable.

And it's cheaper than the cable for the GL12. :?

there is also an aftermarket website that sells cables for much less, although I don't remember the name.

My 95 Aspy has a Speedometer Cable.

One of the chores I have saved for the winter pull down project.
