Greetings to all the Goldwing fanatics!

I am a retired Air Force colonel. For the last 30 years, I have driven a C-130 Hercules.

I have a 2007 ST-1300 and just purchased a 2009 GL1800. The ST is a fun ride and already had calluses on my butt from the C-130, so it was decent long-distance ride. I bought the GL1800 for a more comfortable touring bike. In the hands of an experienced Goldwing rider (not me), it is just as nimble as the ST-1300.

I have been a solo rider but want to learn the "secret handshake" to join a group of Goldwing riders.

Both the ST and the Wing are great bikes in their own right and I am certain that you will get much pleasure out of both over the coming years.



No secret handshake required here, in order to enjoy some good riding with others, just stick your head into the events forum and see what is going on in your area and join right in. :clapper::clapper:You will be hard pressed to find such a diverse, friendly bunch of guys and gals anywhere in the world. I can happily state this, since I have had the great pleasure of meeting many from both sides of the Big Pond.

Welcome ncman.
I parted company with the St 1300 for the goldwing GL1800.The St1300 was in fact a top bike,only complaint i had though was the seat on long rides,not very comfy. The other thing i was'nt to keen on,was the fact there are no atermarket parts or add ons to make it your own,the st1300 just being a work horse.Well chuffed though with the 1800,so very glad i did the swap,no looking back for me,hope you enjoy yours as much as i am enjoying mine.Burkey.

Welcome to the forum.... I hope you enjoy the light hearted conversations here. Sounds like you have 2 nice bikes to enjoy depending on your mood (and butt callouses) that will last.




As for the secret handshake (shhhhhhh) I can only tell ya once. No one likes to talk about it. As you are riding along the highway and see other riders. Extend your left arm in a welcoming manner. Spread fingers slightly apart (I said fingers ...that means more than one finger shown to the other riders...even crotch rockets). Hold said position untill you pass the other rider. Some will return the gesture (others will show other hand gestures) but the ones who get it right, you will know that they understand the reason we ride.
