Discussion Starter #1
I have a 1983 Honda Goldwing GL 1100A. when I start my bike some times it acts like the starter Bendix is going past the flywheel and then on the return it catches it. could the starter need a shim or a small spacer in front of the Bendix gear?
It doesn't do it all the time. this is a new starter. I've thought about the fly wheel having a gear missing in a spot, but it seems to do this too often. can you help me? thanks.

It is not the starter and they don't have a bendix. It is the start clutch which is on the rotor shaft in the back of the engine.
What kind of oil are you using? Try adding 4 oz of Seafoam, 1/4 qt of ATF or marvel mystery oil to the engine oil and run it hard 100 miles or so and change the oil.
