have decided its the starter key switch, because if i turn the key too far my lights go out, back a little the solenoid clicks but no crank, back a little more and it cranks.
so my Q. is how hard is it to change the switch on 84 Aspencade?:stumped:

Itsounds more like a failing ignition switch to me.The headlight is supposed to go out when the starter button is pressed but not when the ignition key is on and the starter switch not pressed. Both the headlight going out and the starter working at slightly different positions of the iginition switch would indicate a badly worn contact in theswitch. I think you're going to have to replace the electrical part of the switch, the lock section should be okay.
