Started several weeks ago and had to shift to neutral yesterday: When in gear and engaging the clutch, the starter won't always engage. I can hear the click in the clutch lever but it's like a connection isn't being made. I can start in neutral every time. Is there a DIY solution?

This if for 1100's but the clutch safety circuit won't let the clutch engage if the system thinks the bike is in gear and the clutch lever is not pulled in so maybe your switch is not activating making the system thing the clutch lever is not pulled in and the bikes in gear. So clean the switch and check the connections

Also replace your brass clutch bushing in the lever handle.

Thanks, guys. Who'd a believed it would be so simple, but it was. Works every time now. [Wish I could get my neutral light to 'light' now.]
