There is a company in Harbor City, CA called R & Z Alternator, they make a 90 amp alternator for the GL1500 and it is the same size as the OEM. I installed one of these on my 1500 a year ago and haven't had any problems with it. I sold the 1500 in Feb to buy a new 1800. Like I said, it worked great.

Coming from an electronics background I was curious has to how they could double the amperage with out increasing the size of the alternator. I called them an spoke to the owner (Robert) about their alternator. He said they accomplish this by double winding the stator and going with a star configuration on the wiring.
