Hi all, My 84 Aspy has had this condition since I bought her.When coldthe bike fires immediately and runs fine. At about one bar showing on the temp gauge, it starts to chuff and cough occasionally. sounds like the ignition cuts out for a split second. When the temp gauge gets to three bars, the condition stops, the bike idles perfectly and drives fine. No other drivability issues.After the engine is warmed up or after being ridden there is no stumble at all. Does this happen to anybody else out their? Is this a sign of impending death of my pulse generators?, or just a quirk? Thanks

I haven't had that problem on my '85 1200A.

gkiesel, how much enrichner (choke) are you running at the time of the cough? If it runs good at all other times it sounds like you might need to run a little more choke at 1 bar showing.

I just leave the choke on till the engine is a little warmer.

As the engine heats up it needs less choke. I ease up on the choke on my bike soon after I start it because I don't like the idle above 1500 rpm on a cold engine. I start easing the choke until I get it running around 1000-1200rpm.

Well I checked it this morning, and it really doesn't seem related to the position of the choke. i usually adjust the choke to maintain about a 1200 to 1400rpm idle during warm up and back off as she warms up and idles better on her own. If you shut the choke off and maintain a fast idle with the throttle it still chuffs occasionally until it gets alittle warmer. If you ride away at one bar showing with or without choke you can hear it misfire some until you get to the end of the street where it's warmed up by now and the condition goes away. It's just kind of strange and really doesn't seem to be carburation related more like ignition related. Really more of a trait of this bike than a real problem. Thanks.
