Hi guys and gals:
when I take off in first gear, from a dead stop, my bike stutters slightly and the transmission growls because the engine does not take hold immediately. the engine runs exceptionally smooth when it gets going and at rpm's above 2000, and idles very smooth. I have changed plugs and set timing but did not cure problem, any suggestions?

Try a search of the site particulally the frequently asked questions. I am sure you will find this is normal. It just takes some getting used to. You may find a little more revs and slipping the clutch a little will help you. Please don't take this as gospel though.

Like you I am new to the site but i'm sure i've heard this said before.

The 1100 has a history of "clatter" during take off if the RPM's aren't up. It could be that or it could be a couple other things. Clutch cable adjustment, clutch slipping due to being worn or you could be running the wrong kind of oil in your bike.

2 of my bikes were cured of the clatter, simply by changing out the old tired clutch disks and springs.
