On my GSXR it had three positions: "P", "R" and something else I don't remember, that I assumed was "Primary" "Reserve" and "Off". Turned out it had an electric fuel pump, and that there WAS no "Off", and "P" in fact meant "Prime" as in "prime the carbs and fill the float bowls after it's been sitting all winter" - and it drew from the reserve portion of the tank. So I ran it around in "P" thinking it was "Primary", andwhen it sputtered and died, I flipped it to "R" for "Reserve" - but it didn't start, because I had already drained the whole tank, including the reserve.

Helps to have a manual for these old bikes once in a while. :)
