After further investigation... I found the Honda techs had not even looked at the reverse switch... they told me the problem is with the alternator and it was obvious they never considered a faulty reverse switch.

Is the reverse switch the power switch on the right side of the handlebar? Where you referred in this thread:

Brian the reverse switch is right by the reversehandle under the plastic, the one on the right handlebar operates the reverse relay if the reverse switch is in the right position. The whole reverse wiring system is a bit complicated, there's a relay, the handlebar switch, the reverse switch and an interlock with the side stand. There's no way I can see the alternator could have any connection with your problem, I'd take the bike to another shop, these guys don't sound too sharp to me.
