Hi

I have a 1982 GL1100i. Recently the temperature gauge will move from it"s normal operating place and go almost to thethe over heating area. It will stay there for a few moments then go back to the normal area. The engine temperature does not change. At the same time the fuel gauge will move to the full position no matter how much fuel is in it. When the temp gauge drops the fuel gauge also goes back to where it should be.

I"m thinkingits either overcharging or the gauges are shorting out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not uncommon. The fuel and temp gauges are run off a voltage regulator or limiter. They operate at approx 1/2 system voltage. I suspect you need a new regulator. Not to be confused with charging system regulator/rectifier.

For the mean-time pull the fuse for the whole cluster(UP FRONT under the lid).

That way you won't bake the gauges.

Thanks for all the info and quick responses. I really appreciate it and the parts to build one are now ordered.
