I see we have some new members wanting to greet & ride!

Meet Aug 15 [Saturday] at Jack-in the box hwy 190 and 69 at 8am. Ride 190 east to hwy 87 and go north. The twisties last about 20 miles but they are worth it.

If this gets big enough we can expand into a campground for the weekend.

:clapper::action:I would LOVE to go riding in Deep East Texas:action::clapper:.... Highway 87 is an awesome little road with great scenery and twisties. There is a section of that highway where I swore I was following another Goldwing and kept trying to catch up with it until I recognized my own license plate. If you wanted to work in camping or fishing (OHHH yes you can carry a fishing pole...hehehehe) Lake Sam Rayburn and Lake Toledo Bend can be reached easily from 87. There are some nice marinas on either lake with fishing camps and a few nice state campgrounds as well. My preference is Toledo Bend. If people are interested in a casino trip they are not that far away from the starting point.

But I am getting a bit ahead of myself. What did you have in mind Fred????? (geez I gotta learn to control that enthusiasm). In all sincerity that is beautiful country road (North or South of the starting point) I love riding around there.

If we have any members in Louisiana I am sure it would be worth the trip for them to come and meet some fellow members from Texas on the good side of the Sabine river:toast:

I'd love to go but, unfortunately I will probably have both bikes down at that time. I'mwill still be tryingto get the 1100 fixed up and I will probably be taken the 1200 apart to add a few goodies before the E.S. Just you wait and see the 1200 at E.S.

Marty, are you going to E.S.?

highway 190 and 69 cross in Woodville Texas. The campgrounds of Artesian springs is very near the Louisiana border.

One of my favorite rides is to go north on 69 to 255 east and cross the Sam Rayburn Dam going to 87 to ride the twisties there. There is a lot of scenerey and places to stop.

Good run but add in down to Bleakwood, across 363 to Kirbyville and 1031 to Hillister. Going to be a good day long ride with some sore behinds after that run.

Hey Roadrunner,

Gilmer is north east of Tyler, and 156 miles north of Woodville.

If you're interested, take US 259 to Lufkin, then US 69 to Woodville. I'm giving it a look too, so if you decide to go let me know and I could meet up with you.

That route is just a scenic route across the dam. It is a good run.... It is just a suggestion . Point C on the map is a rest stop with restrooms and is about half way. It is on the dam with some good photo ops as well. Or just across the dam is a gas station and a restaurant. I have not been through Bleakwood or Hillister, as I am always going North on 87 to get to Hemphill. I ride solo so I am not to good at planning a route. I love riding that area and even taking 190 straight into Newton is a nice ride.

I had a good run on the inended route last Saturday then got busy at work and that is why I am at home and off today[out of hours, over 70 on the log book in a short time].

Here is the intended route: meet at jack in the box 69 and 190 Woodville , Tx at 8am. Get coffee and recycle some till 830. Then I am gone.

North on 69 to r225 and go east about 30 mile to hwy 87,[go north and do some site seeing then turn around and go south on 87 to Bleakwood Tx, go west on 363 for 5 miles. Turn soth on 96 for a 1/4 mile ,turn right on 1013 to Hillester Tx.

About 160 miles in the woods. It is not a forced march and can stop where you want too.

Road condition is excellent wih less than 70 cars seen on my ride, passed once, was passed once, and no rude people. Lots of friendly waves and no dirty stares on the ride[except some of the har--y riders]:cooler:.

Be prepared for hot weather, you may want to bring a small cooler for cold drinks.

You will not be able to see the forest for all of the trees!

I am sorry that I will have to miss this ride...... I found out that they want to start the generators this weekend and I will be on call if something is to go wrong... I tried to get out of it but they are kinda insistent that I at least be on call and being 3 hours away is just a bit far....siiiigghhhhhhhhh ......

The route you suggested is a great ride and the only place there is ever traffic is just after the dam there is a restaurant (Stumpy's.... I think.....) good food and pleasant atmosphere. Stopping at the dam will give some photo ops, but be careful of the turn coming off the dam. It is a bit deceiving and a little sharper than I expect nearly every time I go that way. Guess I get distracted by the scenery.

REALLY REALLLY thinking of blowing off work to be there but the whole paycheck thing is getting in the way. I mean what could happen to a generator the size of a large box truck anyway. They have two right????

I hope everyone has a great time and takes pictures that we can share. I want so bad to go, but there is no way I can get out of it at this point.
