If you ever are near 'The Tail of the Dragon' by all means take the time to ride it. 318 turns in 11 miles. Check out http://www.tailofthedragon.com/. I rode it a few weeks ago and WHAT a THRILL!!

Looks cool! We have been talking about taking a ride out that way.

What's the average curve speed on the Dragon?

We went over a couple roads in northern California that also had one curve after another.

Awesome ride. Curve speed depends on how big of kahuna's you got. They have a tree of shame at the end at Deal's Gap where some guy kahuna's got too big and their bike parts are hung from this tree!

The problem with the Dragon is the crowds. There are so many people riding it, you can rarely go the speed limit which is 30 and 35 MPH.I rode it last year at NASSIR with a group. We rode most of it (corners included) between 25 and 30 MPH. I rode it last year at NASSIR with a group. Although it was fun, we had more fun on some of the roads getting there and there was a lot less traffic. If you're going that way ride the Blue Ridge Parkway ans the Cherahola Skyway.

Everyone here knows Rick (aka yellow wolf) is the Dragon Tamer.

I rode the Dragon last year and enjoyed it.
If you watch your GPS while riding the Dragon you can see if the next turn is a 45 degree turn or a hairpin 180 and adjust your speed accordingly. (just a little cheat for you) :action:

Having rode it twice, now, although it was somewhat fun, between the crowds and the police, I'll stick to the curves in Arkansas or West Virginia. Just as many curves without the traffic or the police on every other curve. There are curves on some rodes in WV that are so sharp, you can see your own tailights, and the same for here in Arkansas. Those curves on the Dragon, even though they are close together, are not all that difficult to navigate. I've had a few around here that almost made me crap when I entered them. But glad you had a good time. That is what is important.:D:D

like everyone said it was fun but them damn crotch rockets were so close to me waiting to pass I could have touched there headlight,I swear his front tire was rubbing the back of my leg....

It's a very pretty ride and it's fun. I'm glad I did it too during NASSIR1, and got the t-shirt too, lol, but it is very crowded. I prefer smaller crowds though. I think it's worth doing if you're in the area though.

Glad you had a good time John D.!

I rode it 3 times and had a blast in Oct. Going back again and checkout some of the other rides in the area. I really like the restaurant at the end where everybody meets, met some great folks there and had some good laughs.

Do you mean the tail of the mouse at Deals Gap??:DNothing special ,all hype . Been on much better twistys on my way to work :cheeky1:.

I went on one of the runs last year from Calhoun (nassir 1) and after all the hype about the tail of the dragon ,I was expecting something dramatic , I must say I was bitterly disappointed :(,I enjoyed the company and getting lost 34 times with Kit Carson and watching Flyone dance on the bike ,but the dragons tail turned into a mouses tail for me :):)

You're right Wexy. It's very overrated.

It looks like something I'd want to do if I were in the area already, but that's a long way from home for us. Your right GLester, Arkansas has some great roads (with real switch backs), and it is only a few hours away. Mt. Nebo is one such ride, but you'd better make sure your brakes are in good shape before starting down.

Yea,its over rated and alot of hype. But hey, if you ride then its a must someday.Just to say you did it. The Cherohala Skyway is nicer and you can do 50mph if I remember right. 30 or 35mph is a sleeper, its the curves that make it fun and the people you meet along with the contraptions people ride on it.

You are definately right about Mt Nebo, it will really separate the men from the boys, especially your vocabulary if your brakes or something else fails while going down.
