Well......

I've noticed a subtle, but steady, inclination for some of you on here to convince me I bought the wrong bike -- which is understandable, being a Goldwing forum and all! I can only plead that I'm still sort of a Goldwinger at heart, since I racked up about 240,000 miles on two of them.......

How people can tell that I bought the wrong bike escapes me.... how the hell would they know? A bike's a personal matter; kind of like choosing a wife! Sometimes, you don't have any clue of who you're gonna wake up next to for 40 years or so, or why! Anyway, I searched and searched for a way to handle this.......

and I've got a plan.........

From now on, I'll refer to my ST1300, a bike which seems to make some of you nervous, as the.........wait for it............

The WongWing!

See, problem solved! Excuse me now, I gotta go outside and fondle my WongWing....!

Mel, .... on a day like today, you should be out on your bike and putting some miles on it, regardless if it is a true wing, or not.

Can't please all of the people all of the time! :baffled:

As far as I am concerned you should ride what ever you like. The only wrong bike is one that you do not look forward to riding. Now get out there and scrape some pegs. If that's you thing.

Careful buddy, in some jurisdictions they put you in jail for that. ;)

Not to mention what Red is going to do to you when she catches you.

The ST1300 is a great bike. As long as you and your wife like it WHO CARES what anybody else says.Ride safe.
imported post

Call it the ST1300, that's what is is, and you are who you are, a man that rides a ST1300.
imported post

WongWing? Nah, it's a ST1300 me thinks.

My son's bike is a FJR1300, does that make it a WongWing?

If I could afford another bike in the stable, I might just have an ST1300. I would like a sport-tourer. Don't let any of the naysayers get to you CJ! We still love ya!

Hey you can ride what you like. I'll only complain if you stop writing. :)

240,000 miles!! On a Motorcycle,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Period!!!!!!!!!

Like the song says:

It's your thing

Do what you wanna do

I've enjoyed your Goldwing adventure stories,,,,, and I've enjoyed the ST1300 stories. I look forward to hearing about your future trips on "Motorcycle". I've even learned a few things from you.

Maybe you're a bit sensitive on the subject CJ, I haven't noticed any bias toward your new ride. If there is some, so be it, no reason for you to care about it anyway, it don't mean nothing.
imported post

hey, I've been thinking about a 1300 lately. Would love to make it a trike (I would have to), like the style. That way I could let my wife ride one of them, wow, that would be a hard decision. :D
imported post

CJ, you should know by now that the best bike ever, is the one you are riding...

Your Evil Mistress is a bit more aggressive, ya? I would call it...
imported post

CJ, I don't care if you ride a tricycle, your life experience and your sharing of it with us is what makes this forum so special.

Can't be a real bad choice CJ, read this, wish they would have let us do it.

Paramedic's on ST1300

I don't know if paramedics on m/c(s) has been discussed in Arizona or not. But I have never seen one.

I'm riding A Vulcan because I am more comfortable on it than any other bike I have ridden. We teach our students to buy the bike that fits them because bikes aren't adjustable. You are either comfortable on it or not. I loved my GL1100 but my 1500 Vulcan fits me better. The fact is, I would rather be on this forum, even though I don't ride a Wing anymore, this forum and the people here fit me better than the ones on other forums. Like you, I like it here and wish I could ride with all the members of this great forum. But I will have to be content with reading and learning from its great membership. I don't blame anyone for wanting everyone to ride a Wing. You simply cannot buy a better bike. It is like having accepted Christ as your Savior. once you have Him in your heart, you want everyone to have the same joy. This nice thing is everyone is welcome here. If you fit you belong. It is home for me!

Paramedic's on ST1300
Good read, thanks 96!

But, as agnogel has pointed out, there has been an issue with ST1300 police bikes in the UK.... several instances of a high-speed weave, sometimes fatal, at over a 100mph. ST's have been withdrawn as police bikes in several jurisdictions. Some believe that the police equipment loaded on the back of the bike to be the culprit, and others blame something in the bike's design. I saw one pretty good article that examines the possibility that the weave is caused by improper suspension set-up. Mother Honda, of course, has refused to accept any responsibility or to even acknowledge that there might be a problem. And perhaps there isn't a problem.

The issue seems to be of less concern over here; for instance, Seattle, I believe, has recently begun to replace their Harley-Davidson police mounts with the ST.

I knew about the weave issue before I bought the bike. I kind of leaned toward the fact that it is a very popular long distance ride. Many, many Iron-Butt riders sit on ST's. Besides, I don't know when I would be riding at 130mph plus anyway! I passed two cattle trucks at 105 mph the first week I owned the bike and noticed no problems..... except for the wafting aroma of cattle dung! Which was the reason I passed! I've cruised steadily at 80 mph with no hints of instability or weave......
