Sounds like a nice trip, the most recent experience I've had down under was when a U-joint failed on my truck.

Couple of questions? How long will you be there? and does this include a free weekend?

If you are there for the weekend make sure you do a wine tour. As much as it pains me to say some of the best Red wines on this planet are made in South Australia. (New Zealanders and Australians have a rivalry that goes way back). if you do a tour make sure it include Debortelli's wineries.

More Later. Melbourne is my favourite Aussie city

Gotta watch that wine drinking, next thing you'll want to be eating Brie, get a desire for croissants and before you know it you'll be looking for a BMW.

Will defiantly check out the wine country. I have also be told the local Rum is very good too. I generally have a rule about drinking with the locals in foreign countries. Drink to be polite, enjoy and complement the host but don't wake up in jail.

Hi from New Zealand,

I have been to Melbourne(only takes about 3 hours from Auckland) quite a few times on business and holidays and have found it to be a most enjoyable place. By all means visit the wine country but be careful of how many free tasting tipples you have. It can get a bit messy. An evening trip down the Yarra river is well worth a look at , as is a trip to the nearly new casino. If you are a steak man, you have got to grab a taxi and go to Lazaars restaurant(not the night club of the same name) and have one of their steaks. I go there everytime I am inMelbourne and have never been disappointed yet. There are some world class shows on as well downtown. I think a couple of nights ago there was an ad on the radio for a package trip to Melbourne to see the "LionKing", a show I would like to see myself. I hope this has given you a few ideas and I hope you have a good time. Maybe you might have to visit NZ on business sometime and we could have a few coldies.

Regards,

John S

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to see if the Australians know how to grill a steak. I was in Auckland on business a couple of years ago. Unfortunately it rained most of the time. Still it was beautiful. The cows grazing in the old volcano was not something you see every day. While I was down there I picked up two natural black sheep skins and oneof them is on my bike today. I will be sure and give you a holler if I am headed that way again.

If you didn't leave Auckland you didn't see New Zealand.

If you like Italian then you want to take a walk up Lygon St. Full of awesome Italian resturants. If you are a sports fan then you should try to get to an Aussie Rules game, but get a local to explain it to you first.

Take a tram ride through the city, there is also a tram/resturant which is very nice.

You are right I didn't get to see much out side the city. If I go again I will take a tour to the south Island.
