I'd love to have a R1200RT or a k1200LT but sure can't afford a new one now. There seems to be quite a few for sale on Craigs list though. I'd try to get one for under 10 grand with low miles. They seem to be the most reliable bikes other than the Goldwings. I've never riden one but might go on a tour in Europe next year a rent one to see how I like riding one before commiting to buy. For now I'm perfectly satisfied with my naked 75 Gl1000 and XS1100 Yamaha.

I've got a 2006 R1200RT sitting in my garage at the moment. It has saddle bags and a big trunk, ABS,CB, AM/FM and CD player along with a built in GPS. Also has an electric windshield. It's a nice bike, belongs to my brother who left it here for a few days. I took it for a ride and can say it will definitely out perform my 1500. It will take the curves faster and will out accelerate the 'Wing. It's nearly 200lbs lighter, more aerodynamic and has a higher revving engine. But that's about it. The 'Wing is a heck of a lot more comfortable for me, better seat, more weather protection, quieter, much less vibration, and a lot less shifting with it's superior torque. One thing on my brother's list is an aftermarket windshield. Nothing wrong with his but he got beat up by the rain coming from Stockton, CA here to Medford, OR. All in all I wouldn'tswap his much more expensive BMW for my high mileage '93 'Wing. I guess it depends on what you want to do with a bike. I want comfort for long trips, quietness, and smoothness. Nothing else on two wheelsmatches a Goldwing 1500 on those counts. No, not even an 1800 'Wing.
