It must be small buildings, just like learning skiing. To learn how to downhill ski start with a small hill. When learning how to cross country ski, start with a small country.

If you go to his website, he did indeed practice, and you're not too far off the mark. He used a scaffolding type construction and they move the ramps/platforms to build up his technique.
