Tire break in miles ?

2940 Views 25 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  rgbeard
I am having a Dunlop D404 installed on my wing on Tuesday. I was reading some reviews on the tire and one person mentioned that the tires performed great after the break in miles. I there anything I should be aware of riding new tires ?

In talking to the shop owner who has put three or four tires on mine over the years, he always warns even experienced people about new tires. He told me that twice he has had folks spin their machine around leaving the shop. Not sure how long ago that was, but it was good advice above to take it easy for a bit anytime something is new/changed.
I have had a couple of shop owners give me that warning. I have seen tires put on that have that silicone type feel to them. When my son had his Michelin put on in Robbinsville last fall we made him break them in........ He didn't listen to the 100 mile warning and maybe went 10 before hitting the Cherohala at full speed...... He was ok, no slippage but it made me nervous.
When I hit it mine spin even after brake in.

You are a bad boy Jeff!!!!!:tuttut::laughing:
No problems but was cautious. Have about 140 miles on the new tire, colored lines are gone along with the fear of the front end slipping. Now if we could just get these people to quit dumping oil and gravel on the highways around here !! Thanks for the input.
I'm here at Laguna Seca for a track day on Monday. The bike has fresh Bridgestone BT-003s.

I just plan to two sighting laps then go for it.
