I have 82 1100 aspencade that i bought this summer.tires look like there in good shape.but im thinking of re placing them because i dont know the age of tires.maybe someone on here might tell by the code on tires.front is maxxis classic 65h 120/90-18. m-6115f-1. e4 .Back tire is a challanger 140/90-16. k-657-02.thanks for anyhelp.

:waving:The tire size for the '82-'83 GoldWingsare: Front, 120/90-18 and Rear, 140/90-16. Avon Venoms would be aagood tire replacement. I have the Venoms on my '83 and after over 10,600 miles they show very little wear. Below is a link to the Avon site showing the Venomsfor the'82 & '83 GL1100.

To read the age of the tires there is a DOT code molded into it. After DOT are some other letters and numbers then stamped into the tire will be a set of numbers. The last 4 digits are what you look at, the first 2 of the 4 are the week of the year, this week would be 50, the last 2 are the year i.e. 08. If it has only 3 digits they were made last century.

I found that even though thetires have tread life but are old, the rubber has hardened and gives a much harder ride. Put a new front tire (Dunlop Elite 3)on my 1988 and it made a huge difference in the ride and bumps. Anyone elseexperience that?
